You know that feeling when you’re drained of energy, physically and mentally, but you don’t know why?
You’ve had a good nights’ sleep and feel great when you wake up but a few hours later you find yourself falling asleep in the chair or worse in a meeting! It’s happened a few times recently and you’re baffled as to why your energy levels are so low as you haven’t done anything overly energetic.
Well, here are three questions to ask yourself
1. Am I dehydrated?
Being dehydrated can affect your mood. It can make you feel very lethargic and your level of concentration can drop drastically. The recommended minimum water intake for adults is 2 litres a day. So, drink more water to stay alert, have more physical energy and maintain mental focus.
2. How good is my diet?
Too much processed food, sugar and carbs can play havoc with your energy levels. Cut as much of these out of your diet as you can. Eating regularly throughout the day allows you to manage your blood-sugar levels better and avoid energy peaks and troughs. Also, be aware that any drastic change in your diet can result in your body craving the things you’ve cut out and this can make you feel sluggish. Perseverance is needed.
3. Stuck inside all day?
This can be a contributory factor to why you have low energy. Getting some fresh air is a great way to shift sluggish energy. So, when you can, sit outside for some fresh air. Move your body by going for a walk at lunchtime – even if it’s just to the shop to get a sandwich. Do some exercise, anything to get your lungs and limbs moving and get some fresh oxygen into your body.
