What is reflexology?
This ancient art dates back thousands of years. It was first practised by the Indian, Chinese and Egyptian peoples.
Reflexology works on the principle that all organs and glands of the body are represented by reflex points on the feet, hands, ears and face. By applying pressure to these points your body can start the process of balancing and harmonising all of your body systems and organs.
How will I feel after reflexology?
My clients tell me that their treatment gives them the opportunity to get some much-needed time out of their busy schedules.
But this ancient, non-invasive therapy does so much more.
Reflexology has the remarkable ability to induce mental, physical and emotional relaxation therefore helping to reduce stress and anxiety levels.
Things clients have said after their treatment include:-
- I feel rested, uplifted and have more energy
- I have more clarity and I now can focus on tasks and get more jobs done
- I’m mentally calmer and feel more able to deal with daily challenges
- I have fewer night sweats so my sleep pattern isn’t disturbed and I have more energy when I wake up
- My knees don’t ache as much and I find moving less of a struggle.
So what happens during your treatment?
During your treatment, it’s your job to just relax and drift away (fall asleep if you want) and it’s my job to help your body and mind to rebalance, recharge and revive.
Whilst you’re relaxing, I see your feet as a map of your body with all parts of your body represented in different areas of your feet. First, I observe your feet for colour and texture then I use a series of gentle massage techniques to help your feet and you relax. A series of reflexology techniques are then used to activate and stimulate your body’s own healing systems. Inbalances can be felt by me, and sometimes by you, as I work my way around your feet.
Depending on how you want to feel after your treatment (relaxed mentally or physically, relief from physical aches, energised, mentally alert etc.), I will adapt the treatment to help achieve this.
There’s no diagnosis involved as reflexology training doesn’t include diagnosis of illnesses. At the end of your treatment, we can discuss how you felt and any imbalances I found and I will make suggestions for lifestyle changes you may want to consider. Take a look at these top 10 questions I regularly get asked about reflexology treatments.
Benefits of a reflexology treatment
There are numerous benefits of having a reflexology treatment. This article gives you details of just a few case study results.
Eight of the most common results people have from choosing to have a reflexology treatment are:
- it reduces their symptoms of stress and anxiety which increases their self-confidence
- it reduces their frequency of headaches and migraines
- it improves the quality of their sleep and reduces insomnia
- they have a reduction in the number of colds, flu and infections they have (due to their immune system being stimulated during the treatment)
- it helps them to manage their stress levels (due to their nervous system being stimulated)
- it helps to reduce some of the severity of symptoms of menopause, such as hot flushes (due to its ability to help balance your hormones)
- it gives them relief from their physical aches and pains (through the mental and physical relaxation of the treatment)
- it helps them to mentally relax and brings about clearer thinking.
Why have regular treatments?
A one-off reflexology treatment is a beautifully relaxing treatment for your mind and body and you will leave feeling like you are floating on air. Many one-off treatments are given as a gift or treat for a birthday or anniversary to a friend or family member. Or a gift from an employer to an employee.
Regular treatments will help to support your overall health and well-being long-term and are a great addition to your self-care regime. If you have a regular event that can be quite stressful (end of month deadline at work, your monthly cycle etc.) you may choose to have a monthly treatment after the event to help you recover or before the event to help you prepare for it.
If you are looking to manage a specific mental, emotional or physical condition (including menopause symptoms), regular treatments have been proven to help manage many conditions, especially those that increase when you are feeling stressed or anxious.
Clients who have regular monthly treatments say their treatment plays an important part in maintaining their physical, mental and emotional health.
Here’s what one client had to say…
“Being an advocate of alternative therapies and living a fairly busy existence I find these reflexology treatments ideal. Providing a time for relaxation, contemplation and more than occasionally, drifting off to sleep. Working with Sharon has been a delight. I am always put at ease, leave almost walking on air and always much better than when I arrived.”
